Our aim

Developing confident communicators in a new language

In a world of screens and apps, the best way to learn a language is still in a social setting with a real teacher. Our primary school clubs are all about having fun while exploring a new language.

The focus is on speaking and listening, which is only possible because all groups are small, giving each individual learner plenty of opportunities to contribute and personalised time with the club leader. We encourage a have-a-go attitude, as the aim is to develop confident communicators who aren’t worried about making mistakes.

Our approach

Engaging learning through play and interaction

From the first session, our club leaders mostly speak in the target language that they are speaking. This way the children are immersed in the language from the beginning and soon get used to the new sounds and words.

Every session involves songs, games and activities (often arts & crafts or movement based) to ensure that we’re catering to varying learning styles and abilities. We also offer three levels of complexity when it comes to the vocab/phrase focus of the session, ensuring that a range of learning levels are covered and children can work at their own pace.

Progress

Motivating achievement and growth

In their first club session, children are given a special Speak Like A Native passport and the goal is to collect stamps every week for following club rules and participating in activities. At the end of the term, they’re awarded a certificate that states the level achieved (this is based on the number of terms in the club) in order to encourage them to come back again the following term and progress up to the next level.

Parents & carers have access to extra learning resources (Topic Overviews and Activity Packs) that you can preview on the Resources for learners page on our website.
